We have exciting staff news to share! Jenelle Esparza, our Family Programs Museum Educator, has recently begun her Summer 2018 International Artist-In-Residence Program at Artpace in San Antonio, Texas. We are thrilled for Jenelle and eagerly await her return to the McNay later this summer. Keep an eye out for news regarding her upcoming Artpace exhibition.

What is the Artist-In-Residence Program?
From Artpace: “Three times a year, Artpace invites a guest curator to choose three artists to live and create art in San Antonio for two months. Each residency cycle includes one international, one national, and one Texas-based artist… The mission of the program is to provide artists with unparalleled resources that enable them to experiment with new ideas, take provocative risks, and realize innovative and ambitious new work.” Jenelle Joins the ranks of several notable artists who have completed this residency program, including Do-Ho Suh, Glenn Ligon, Cruz Ortiz, Chuck Ramirez, Teresita Fernandez, Leonardo Drew, Ken Little, and Chris Sauter (whose work will be on view in our Summer banner exhibition  Immersed).

More about Jenelle Esparza
From Artpace: “Jenelle Esparza is originally from Corpus Christi, Texas. Primarily a photographer, Esparza also works in multi-media installation and abstract photo-based work. She received her BFA in photography from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2010. She was recently awarded the 2015 NALAC (Nat’l Association of Latino Arts and Culture) Artist Grant for her project El Color de la Obra, exhibited at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center.
