15 SAN ANTONIO MUSEUMS AND CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS JOIN TOGETHER TO OFFER

FREE RECIPROCAL GENERAL ADMISSION AND MORE DURING

THIRD ANNUAL MUSEUM MONTH

Collaborative Citywide Celebration of Arts and Culture Kicks Off October 1

San Antonio, TX (September 25, 2019) – Fifteen museums and cultural institutions across San Antonio have joined together to celebrate art, history, and culture in the Alamo City with the launch of the third annual San Antonio Museum Month on October 1. Throughout the entire month of October, more than a dozen participating institutions are offering reciprocal general admission to members, special events, and membership promotions to locals and visitors to San Antonio. New and existing members of any participating Museum Month institution can experience the city’s vibrant arts and culture scene at any of the 15 organizations for the entire month.

As the lead sponsor for Museum Month 2019, Hilton is offering guests a special admission rate of Buy One, Get One free for up to four guests (per party) at 41 regional Hilton Hotels. This promotion begins in October and runs through December 2019. Hilton Honors members will also receive additional perks, including 10% off in select museum shops. VIA Metropolitan Transit will return as the official Museum Month transportation partner, offering fare-free service on its VIVA routes (11, 40, and 301) every Saturday in October. Participating Institutions:

• Artpace San Antonio is a contemporary art space that annually hosts three international artist residencies culminating in a two-month exhibition on site. It is free and open to the public.

• Blue Star Contemporary is the first and longest-running nonprofit venue for contemporary art in San Antonio.

• Briscoe Western Art Museum brings to life the vibrant culture and heritage of the Western United States through a permanent collection of art and artifacts.

• Edward Steves Homestead Museum is a French Second Empire mansion built in 1876 by Edward Steves that now displays a period interior with family furnishings and collections.

• The DoSeum inspires children to use their inner creativity and curiosity to learn through play in more than 64,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space.

• McNay Art Museum is the first museum of modern art in Texas and houses works by modern masters such as Paul Gauguin, Vincent van Gogh, and Edward Hopper.

• Ruby City is a 14,472-square-foot contemporary art center dedicated to providing a space for the city’s thriving creative community to experience works by both local and internationally-acclaimed artists.

• San Antonio Art League and Museum is an architectural jewel in the historic King William District that features exhibitions of contemporary local artists and notable early Texas works from its permanent collection.

• San Antonio Botanical Garden is committed to outstanding displays, botanical diversity, education, environmental stewardship, and experiences that connect people to the natural world.

• San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving four of the five Spanish frontier missions in San Antonio.

• San Antonio Museum of Art takes you around the world and through five thousand years of art in a complex of buildings that once housed the Lone Star Brewery.

• Southwest School of Art is the only independent college of art in Texas and houses regularly changing exhibitions of contemporary art by regional, national, and international artists.

• UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures features exhibits, programs, and special events that examine and promote the state’s heritage, ethnicity, history, social issues, and popular culture.

• Villa Finale Museum & Gardens, an 1876 Italianate mansion and the only National Trust for Historic Preservation site in Texas, features lush gardens, an astonishing collection of art and antiques, and a variety of programs and events for all ages.

• The Witte Museum is where nature, science, and culture meet through the lens of Texas deep time. From ancient dinosaurs to the keys to the Alamo, experience it only at the Witte.
